I hadn't payed much attention to young Danish artist Sara Grabow before 6. November this year where I watched her performing two songs from her album, Rude, Unbending & Lusty, released on 8. October 2007. It was on Danish TV2's Go' Morgen Danmark, and I only saw the live broadcast by accident.

Sara and her band really took me by surprise. What I heard was fascinating, so the next day I tried to get the album. Unfortunately in vain.
I became aware that Sara was scheduled to play at Musikcaféen in Copenhagen two weeks later, so I wrote her and suggested her to make a live photo series of her performance. Then I could get the album at the same occation.

The concert included one of Sara's friends , who also sang shared vocals on Sara's most recent album. A young and talented artist from Iceland, Helgi Jonsson. He opened the evening by playing a marvellous set of acousticly backed songs.
Helgi has a sound very similar to another Nordic songwriter, Teitur, so there seams to be a special Nordic sound.
Helgi also played the piano and later he backed Sara on trombone on the song, Oak Tree.
And Sara sang shared vocals on the song that closed Helgi's set.
So because they mixed up in each other's sets I've decided to mix up my photo presentation as well.

Sara sang her songs so beautifully, - much more rocky compared to the recorded songs, which was nice for the live stage. The studio songs on the album almost has a touch of Daniel Lanois in the way it's produced.

Before the concert I was fortunate to have a talk with Godfather of Danish Rock, Steffen Brandt, who attended the concert to listen to Sara's set. The two of them had performed together at some of Steffen Brandt's concerts where he's duetting with various upcoming female artist at the Danish rock scene. He has also played with another talented artist, Julie Maria, whom was present this night at Musikcaféen, too.
I hoped to get a portrait of Steffen Brandt with Sara and Julie Maria after the concert, but The Godfather 'had left the building' before I was ready for the setup.
So I did some portraits of the two young artists, Sara and Julie Maria, which can be viewed at the bottom of this page.
